Today, former Major League All-Star and World Series Champion Mark “Tex” Teixeira announced his campaign for Congress in Texas’ 21st District. Congressman Chip Roy recently announced that he will not seek re-election in order to run for Texas Attorney General.

Teixeira, the 5th overall pick in the 2001 MLB Draft, began his career with the Texas Rangers. Over 14 seasons, “Tex” earned three All-Star selections, five Gold Gloves, and three Silver Sluggers, capping his career with a World Series victory with the New York Yankees in 2009.

After retiring from baseball, Teixeira and his wife, Leigh, returned to Texas to raise their children, pursue new business opportunities, and continue their charitable outreach supporting education and Christian ministries. Since moving back in 2021, Teixeira has championed conservative causes, including supporting Governor Greg Abbott and volunteering with the Texas Public Policy Foundation. A winner on and off the field, Teixeira is now pursuing his passion for public service and the America First agenda by entering the Republican primary for District 21.

“As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative who loves our country, I’m ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and America exceptional,” Teixeira said. “It takes teamwork to win, and I’m ready to help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty.”

Born to a Navy veteran father and a schoolteacher mother, Teixeira learned discipline, hard work, and service from an early age.

“Texas is the land of fierce independence, relentless optimism, and limitless opportunity. That unique spirit thrives in the Hill Country and throughout Congressional District 21 — from Kerrville to New Braunfels, from Leakey to Bandera, and everywhere in between,” Teixeira said. “Congressman Chip Roy has represented this district with unwavering courage and leaves an impressive legacy of principled conservative leadership. I’m running to ensure District 21 remains prosperous and free for generations to come.”

“Playing for the Texas Rangers and raising my family in the Lone Star State has been one of the greatest blessings of my life,” Teixeira added. “Now I’m ready to answer the call to serve my country, my state, and the conservative principles that have made Texas the envy of the nation.”

In Congress, Teixeira pledged to work with President Trump to secure the border, grow the economy, end radical woke indoctrination, promote American energy independence, defend life and the Second Amendment, end forever wars, and strengthen the military.

Teixeira concluded: “I will campaign hard, meet Texans across the district, and earn every vote. In Congress, I’ll always stand up for the real heroes — our men and women in uniform, police officers and firefighters, farmers and ranchers, parents, teachers, and hard-working taxpayers.”

Mark and his wife, Leigh, live in Central Texas with their three children, Jack, Addison, and William. Their family attends Austin Ridge Bible Church and remains active with numerous charitable organizations nationwide.
